The Basics:
Five years ago, I never imagined I’d be writing a blog about dogs. In fact, I never imagined I’d own even one dog. Both my son and I are allergic to dogs, so pet ownership seemed impossible. But life has a funny way of changing your plans – and sometimes those changes come with four legs and a wagging tail.
Everything started with Gunnar in 2020. I was recovering from a back injury and needed motivation to move and exercise daily. When we discovered Australian Labradoodles and their allergy-friendly, non-shedding coats, suddenly dog ownership became a possibility. Gunnar wasn’t just my first dog – he became my recovery companion, my shadow, and honestly, my best friend.
One Australian Labradoodle quickly became two when Sven joined our family in 2021 as my 40th birthday present from my husband. We wanted Gunnar to have a furry companion, plus I had completely fallen in love with these amazing dogs. Sven brought his own gentle, laid-back personality that perfectly complemented Gunnar’s protective nature.
Then came Gösta in 2024. I’d secretly wished for and manifested a third dog (don’t ask me why – apparently I’m a glutton for punishment!). When my friend, a breeder, hadn’t found a homecarer for this beautiful red puppy, we decided to make him part of our pack. My husband wasn’t entirely enthusiastic, but he lives by “happy wife, happy life” – and life has been very energetic ever since!
Going from zero dog knowledge to managing three intelligent, energetic Australian Labradoodles has been quite the journey. I’ve learned everything from basic training and grooming to handling behavioral issues, managing allergies, and developing leadership skills I never knew I needed. My husband jokes that I could open a pet supply store with all the products we’ve tested over the years!
We’ve faced plenty of obstacles along the way – some that felt overwhelming at the time. There were moments when I questioned whether I should even be allowed to have dogs. But here’s what I’ve learned: every problem has a solution, and every challenge makes you a better dog owner. That trial-and-error experience is exactly what I want to share with you.
I’m an entrepreneur living in Finland with my lovely husband and our family of five – three children and our newest addition, our first grandchild! Our youngest son still lives at home and has a special bond with Gösta, while our daughter is married and our older son lives with his girlfriend and their 6-month-old daughter. The dogs are definitely part of the extended family now.
These dogs are incredible, especially for families like ours. They don’t shed (crucial for allergies), they don’t drool, they don’t smell, and they’re incredibly friendly and good with children. They’re smart, fast learners, and honestly perfect for first-time dog owners – if you don’t mind the energy level!
But I won’t sugarcoat it: they’re not just cute, fluffy teddy bears. They’re intelligent, active dogs that need mental stimulation, proper training, and consistent leadership. They can be challenging, but they’re also incredibly rewarding.
